The Valley That Time Forgot Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

Nomex: Hi wildlifeguy
As there's been no cache to find for months, I'm temporarily archiving this to keep it from continually showing up in search lists. Just contact us when you have the cache repaired, [RED]and assuming it still meets the guidelines[/RED], we'll be happy to unarchive it.

You may email me at via the link to my profile on the log. [red]Please be sure to include the cache name and GCxxxx number, or better yet, the URL of the cache page.[/red]

Thanks for your cooperation!

Geocache Description:

Welcome to a place where not too many people come or even know about. This cache is a multiple cache that has 5 steps for you to reach your prize. Bring Binoculars!

Before my wife and I got into geocaching we liked to take nice long drives through the country, always looking for lost places, hidden roads, and just out of the way places. This cache is not only dedicated to this pursuit, it is one of the places we found, near our home, that we would like to share with you.

The listed coordinates will take you to the first step of your journey.

Step one is a plaque giving the history of the settlers. Using information from the plaque you must solve the following puzzles to gain the coordinates to the next step.

To get to step 2:
The Latitude coordinate will be found by figuring out this puzzle:
N38 0(the day the plaque was dedicated) then (the last number on the plaque, in parentheses, removing the "99"). Placing the decimal point in the appropriate place to get a reasonable coordinate.

The Longitude Coordinate will be found by solving this puzzle:
W120 (Long Coordinate at top of page, or where you are now)+ The year the plaque dedicated + 31. Placing the decimal point in the appropriate place to get a reasonable coordinate.

Step 2 is a historical building that is central to the history of the area. Using the information on the building (here is where the binoculars will be needed), you will be able to solve several puzzles to get the coordinates to the next step.

To get to step 3:
The latitude coordinate can be found by solving the following puzzle:

N38 0A.BCD where

A=1/2 the number of letters in the middle name of the lady mentioned here.
B=twice the number of letters in the lady's first name.
C=the third number in the first date listed on the sign on the building.
D=Subtracting the number of letters in the lady's first name from the number of letters in her last name.

The longitude coordinate can be obtained by solving the following puzzle.

W120 EF.GHI where:

E=the number of letters in the first word of the building's name.
F=The number of letters in the name of the town in which this building is located, minus 1.
G=The third number in the second date listed in the sign on the building.
H=The number of years this building was in operation minus 75.
I=Subtract the number of letters in the first word of the name of the building (or "E") from the number of letters in the first name of the lady.

Step 3 is located on a graveled road. There is a small cache container with the coordinates to the next step inside. Please notice the old brick building to the northwest.

Step 4 will take you to a nice vantage point to look over the whole of the valley. Here you will find another micro container with the coordinates to the last and final step of your journey.

Step 5 is a regular sized container with various trade items, a log, and a geonote.

The area is mostly private property, but the roads are public, which means there is no need to trespass, jump fences, or cross onto private property to find any of these caches.

I hope you have enjoyed your driving tour of a valley that time seems to have passed on by.
