A Mauler Original design, which contains the log sheet. Bring your
own pen. Not a good location for night caching and I recommend this
site as a partner hunt. My Garmin was indicating a 25' accuracy
when the cache was emplaced. Not a long hike, but a strenuous one.
Red Bluff is a unique vista within the state created by an exposed
iron-oxide stained sand and gravel feature of the Citronelle
Formation. Due to ongoing erosion, MDOT is planning a shift of
Highway 587 away from the cliff at some point in the future. Spend
a few minutes enjoying the various views from the edge of the
precipice.
There are different avenues of approach to the cache, I spent 25
minutes hiking and climbing to my chosen location, which is less
than 350 feet from the parking area, if you have access to a rotary
wing aircraft. I knew that I had suffered through Air Assault &
Airborne Schools for some reason, the training paid off on this
trek! :-)
SAFETY BRIEF: Exercise caution during your hunt and when departing
Red Bluff, due to the topography and the nature of the highway
itself. A 100' foot rope might help out along the trail, but it is
not required.
