How Geocaching Works

Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer.

Geocache Description:

The tree has been "de-decorated" until next year. The cache is now a two gallon bucket at the same coordinates with a dozen CITO bags (HINT, HINT). This is a high visibility cache - Please use extreme caution around muggles! Feel free to leave ornaments for next year's tree - I will periodically remove and store any ornaments.

The concept here is simple – just bring one or more Christmas tree ornaments, garlands, etc to the cache site. Once you are there, you’ll figure out what to do with them pretty quick! There is no log at the site – make sure that you mark your ornaments using a magic marker or paint stick ahead of time with your GeoCaching name. The more www.geocaching.com and www.utahgeocachers.com are hanging (oops, I gave it away!) at the site, the better the effect. Laminated Geo Tokens with a paper clip attached will definitely be a plus with regards to advertising the ‘sport’ of GeoCaching! Just make sure that when you “leave your log” at the site, it is securely affixed at the site to prevent Mother Nature from removing it via wind, snow, sleet or rain!

Because of the visible nature of this cache it is not advised leaving any travelers here!

The goal of this cache is three-fold. 1) Make folks wonder what the heck people are decorating a tree in the middle of nowhere for. 2) Make folks wonder enough to go and investigate the tree, see the www.geocaching.com url’s, go home and log into the internet, and become HOOKED (just like the rest of us crazies). 3) Spend a quiet moment, away from the malls, the stores, the hub-bub etc., and remember just why we celebrate this time of the year anyway . . .

After the Holidays the tree will be dressed down, the ornaments stored and the site changed to a traditional permanent mini-cache.
