Die sog. 'Schwedenschanze' im Borgwald umfasst ein Gebiet von ca. 5 Hektar. Ein Graben- und Wallsystem, ursprünglich wohl als hölzerne Konstruktion erbaut, umschließt den freien Innenbereich. Die Höhe des im Grundriß spitzovalen Wallverlaufs beträgt heute noch zwischen 2 und 5 m. Die Einwanderung slawischer Stämme in die norddeutsche Tiefebene erfolgte während des 7. Jhd.. Ab dem 8. Jhd. werden häufig Befestigungsanlagen errichtet. Vermutlich hatten diese Burgen mehrere Funktionen. Neben militärischen Aufgaben und zum Schutz von Mensch und Vieh ist auch an die Bedeutung als religöser und politischer Mittelpunkt zu denken. Die innerhalb des Walles gefundene slawische Keramik des Feldberger Typs erlaubt eine Datierung in das 8.-10. Jhd..
Es bietet sich ein lohnenswerter Besuch des nahegelegenen Wasserschloß Mellenthin an (mit Café).

The so called "Schwedenschanze" in the Borgwald covers an area of about 5 hectares. A system of ditches and ramparts, originally built as a wooden construction, encloses the free inner area. Today, the height of the ditches is still between 2 and 5 m. During the 7th century, slavian tribes immigrated into the lowlands of northern Germany. From the 8th century on, more and more fortifications were built. Probably those castles had several tasks. Besides military functions and to protect man and cattle, one has to think about their meaning as religious and political center. The slavian ceramic of "Feldberger" type found inside the wall allows a dating into the 8th to 10th century.
