Geocache Description:


This regular cache can be found off-the-beaten-track in a park in western Washington County. Recent improvements have made it a prime spot for warm-weather picnicking, relaxation and reverie (or a place of pristine beauty and solitude following a 10” snowfall).

Located along Licking Creek, this family oriented park has all the usual attractions – ball field, tennis court, basketball, volleyball, playground for the little ones, barbecue grilles, covered pavilions and plenty of room to roam. In the center is a small freshwater pond and wetlands area that are nicely preserved. To the north-eastern horizon is a toy-box-perfect red barn.

Reverie indeed! The 29th President of the United States came here for R&R on more than one occasion. He even brought some of his creative, influential and wealthy friends, during a time in the nation’s history when touring and vacationing by motorcar were evolving into a new pastime. The park bears the name of that president. During his tenure, this place held a well-appointed camp that was used not only for picnicking, but also for hunting and fishing retreats.

The above coordinates lead to a large stone tablet, not the cache itself. The tablet tells a brief story about the notable visitors who hung out here in the early 1920’s.
