Geocache Description:

This is a very unique opportunity to view many petroglyphs, pictographs and scratchings up to 2000 years old within a small area.

Early inhabitants of Hells Canyon left a rich legacy of rock art. Some evidence suggests that Hells Canyon was occupied as early as 7,000 years ago, but most of the rock art at this site was probably made within the last 2,000 years. Over 200 sites have been identified here and three distinct types are represented:

1. Petroglyphs - Deep etchings in the rock
2. Pictographs - Paintings made from different dyes
3. Scratchings - Patterns made with light scratches

As you explore this area, please stay on the graveled trails. Under no circumstances should you touch any of the stones. This site can be reached by car or jet boat and is accessible year round. During winter months, a 4 wheel drive vehicle with chains might be required.

To claim this cache, post photos of your favorites including at least one with you in the image. Again, make sure you do not leave the paths to take these pictures.
