Took me 9 months to finally get this placed at this location because what would be more appropriate than Sooner Lake for my cache. I remember seeing this lake when I was caching last Spring in this area and the Golden Retreivers also mentioned it to me but I couldn't remember exactly where it was. What is amazing is that no one within 30 miles has ever heard of it. Found a little gas station just before Ponca City where the clerk knew where it was. Was about 10 miles back the way I came from.
It is owned and maintained by the Sooner Gas and Electric company north of Stillwater. Sorry I didn't get the park hours so don't know if the night stalkers will have access.
However, it is a very well kept park that has a boat dock, oodles of picnic tables with a grill at each table, and plenty of portapotties. The power plant can be seen in the distance to the north.
2/20/05 - made a trip today to repair cache. Replaced the almost empty plastic container with an ammo box. Evidently someone did not replace where it was originally well hidden, it was out in open and it seemed to have been found and ravaged. Only two small items remained and a book on Oklahoma that was soaked beyond repairing.
