If you start from the bottom like we did a first waypoint you can
use is Ermita de los Reyes
N 28° 06.374 W 017° 19.431. The path on the right side of the VGR
leading up the valley is very obvious. Than the „Church
Path“ (Kirchenpfad in German) is your next aim, it starts at
N 28° 06.471 W 017° 19.226 and you can find a little stone man
(Steinmännchen) there.
In about 1 h and 15 min. you’ll reach the to of the church
path, a saddle at
N 28° 06.221 W 017° 18.819, while hiking uphill you get great views
on the VGR. From this point it’s only 20 min to the cache in
north eastern direction.
To make sure you’re on the right track, you can check the
coordinates at another little stone man, where you already can see
the cache location N 28° 06 293 W 017° 18.724 (see also the picture
below). In total it takes about 2 hours to reach the cache from the
bottom of VGR.
The cache location is only 5 meters away from the starting point
of a path following a red sediment stripe (rotes Schichtband in
German). Be careful this path can only be used when the weather is
absolutely dry, if it rained recently it’s very slippery and
dangerous.
If the weather is dry you can follow the red sediment stripe
path to descend to the bottom of the valley again. We can recommend
Bar La Viscaina for a Café con Leche, relaxing a little on the
Balcony at N 28° 06.836 W 017° 18.568.
You can also do the tour the other way round not hiking up the
church path but the quite ascending path to the red sediment
stripe. This path starts at N 28° 06.891 W 017° 18.454, you reach
the point by continuing the slowly ascending path from the Ermita
de los Reyes and later the road until you reach Higuera del Llano,
passing Reyes and Chele.

Note on cache maintenance: Cache Maintainance of
Valley Gran Rey will be done by Gaby and her husband Luis our host
and resident in Valley Gran Rey. They are no geocachers, but they
know where the cache is hidden and in case we need maintanance
between our own visits, they know what to do. We - Bluetooth-Team -
come to Gomera once a year.
