11:00 AM to 4:00 PM
Co-sponsored by the City of Safety Harbor
Parks & Recreation Dept.
WELCOME!
11:00 - Registration - (get your team's goodie bag, drop off TBs, signature items, GX donations, etc.)
11:30 - GXing BINGO (Getting to Know You) & GXing Juggling
12:00 - Group hug, uh, we mean lunch
12:15 - During lunch, "I Read It In The Logs", the GXing Fact-or-Fiction Game by Yuzawa Kat
1:00 - Presentations and demonstrations:
- GXing Dangers (Florida Native)
- Camouflage Demo (tdjvolks)
- Paperless GXing & Making Your Own GPS Map forum (Toad of Weeza & Toad)
1:30 - Cache Coords given; go play!
* GXers help the community with their CITO activities and other ways. Here's another way you can help today. We support Tampa Bay Harvest, who glean food to give to soup kitchens, foodbanks and other organizations who feed the needy. Bring a non-perishable food item, and we will give you the cache coords early. Can do for a can do. These non-perishables will be donated to Attention House, right here in Safety Harbor.
3:00 - Travel Bug Exchange
Please "drop" your TBs off at this cache before the GeoPicnic.
3:15 - Superlatives & Raffle Prize drawings
- Oldest GXer
- Youngest GXer
- At least 5 more superlatives (We're not telling!)
- Nominations from the field
- The Filled Cache Containers and any remaining smaller prizes will be raffled off.
The only way to get raffle tickets is to participate in the earlier events.
The only way to win is to be present at the time of the drawing.
3:45 - Please help us CITO here
4:00 - Gotta go (GXing, anyone?)
Now, back to our original programming. [;)]
The given coordinates are for the pavilion at the South City Park ballfields in Safety Harbor. There are restrooms, a fenced playground, and a boat ramp. Ballfields are for rent. Donations will be accepted to help defray costs. Any excess monies collected will go to defray the costs of the next event. The picnic will be potluck, so please bring something for yourself and something to share. We'll have a camp stove or two set up, but would appreciate it if someone will offer to bring their BBQ grill or some Hibachis in case anyone wants hot foods. Bring your lawn chairs, too, in case we run out of picnic tables.
GeoMentoring will be offered, where newbies can pair up with a more experienced cacher to scope out the caches activated for this event. Anyone interested in helping out with this, please let us know.
We have a couple of presentations/demonstrations lined up:
Florida Native will present "Snakes and Other Geocaching Dangers." [:o]
A demonstration of cache camouflaging with a corresponding hands-on "try-it-before-you-buy-it" workshop will be presented. If you want to be a part of this, too, bring your camouflaging stuff and show us all what you've got in your bag of tricks. [}:)]
A Paperless GXing Forum will be moderated by Toad of Weeza & Toad. Toad will also discuss map making with your GPS.
Please bring any items you are willing to donate to fill cache containers, which will be the main prizes. We'll all help load them up and make sure they are ready to be hidden. Prizes include the aforementioned ready-to-place containers (just add log book and pencil), an uncirculated GeoCoin, and an uncirculated Travel Bug tag. Other small prizes will also be available. You must be present to win any ribbons or prizes.
A table will be set up for a Travel Bug swap. Bring all those TBs and most likely someone will be able to help them move along. Please include a print out of the TB's goal.
There will also be a special One Day Only cache that MUST be found in order to log this event. You are encouraged to bring your signature item to leave in that cache.
In order for us to get a "ballpark" (get it?) figure of the amount of people coming, please post a note on this site to let us know who, how many, and what dish you will bring to share.
[8D] I confirmed with the Parks people: Yes, dogs are allowed but, of course, they must be kept on a leash at all times and owners are expected to "pick-up" after them.
Please feel free to bring all those GeoHounds with you for an afternoon of fun and fellowship. They can help sniff out the four new caches that will be activated that day -[:)]- everyone will have a chance to claim a First To Find!
We're looking forward to meeting all of you! See you on Sunday, January 18th! Happy caching ~~
