The Bearing Tree Traditional Cache
Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions

I've been wanting to hide one up in this area for a while, this cache lies on Taylor's Ridge which contain some of the oldest rocks in Georgia. This ridge has been noted for the fossils that can be found here, one site I will detail at the end of this listing if this type of hunting tickles your fancy. Once you find the cache, walk about 120' WSW to N34 28.428, W085 17.040 to see how we arrived at the name...kinda interesting. The cache site lies near the Pinhoti Trail that crosses the ridge, there is another cache nearby you should attempt while in the area. Please remember to wear orange during hunting season. Getting to the cache site can be interesting, we had a bit of fun in BD83's Jeep, especially on the way back and turned his 4WD into a 3WD! Hopefully, the photos will follow soon, if they come out with the low light we had. If you want to try your hand at finding some crinoid stem fossils, make a note of the forestry road as soon as you turn off of Hwy 27. You will see a metal post that is part of a gate about 100' into the road. You will see in the bank to your left where folks have been digging the stems out (they can look like broken screws), please do not dig but gently scrape the dirt back, many segments can be found lying on the ground, especially after a rain. I generally don't divulge my fossil spots, but I located this site on the web at this link (good hiking trail info here too): http://sherpaguides.com/georgia/mountains/cumberland_plateau/armuchee_ridges.html
