Geocache Description:

Cache is disabled due to construction! 5/7/04

This is a two stage multi. The first is a virtual where you will have to find numbers to decipher the coords for the final cache. The cache is a ammo box hidden in the general area.

Well here is the Geo Cacher who was was the:

FTF : Team Happyspider !

This multi cache will take you to an item of historic value that you can reach out and touch. Here is a piece of the “Berlin Wall.” The piece of the Berlin Wall has been donated by Sen. Chuck Clay in honor of his grandfather General Lucius Clay. General Clay, according to the Atlanta Jewish Times, is the man who "masterminded the Berlin Airlift in 1948 after the Soviet Union closed all roads leading into the divided city. I have added a few links to info and history of the wall.
As you visit this cache take a moment reflect that in this country we are free to express our feelings, and pause to remember those who don’t share that right.

This piece of the wall is outside and can be viewed 24/7. The KSU police and the Anne Frank Exhibt are aware of this placement. Please abide with all parking and speed limits while searching for this cache.

To find the clue for stage # 2 look behind the wall, in the windows to find 2 years separated by a hyphen. You should see something like "1939 - 1964". Jot down the years you see to solve this puzzle to find the correct coords for stage # 2.

Stage #2 Write down the years you found like this:

19XX - 19ZZ

Now subtract what you found for the XX, from 96 to find the last 2 digits for the North coords

N 34 01.5__

Now subtract what you found for ZZ from 52 to find the last digit for the West coords

W084 34.10__

Stage cache is an ammo box with some goodies and a special prize for the FTF( claimed by Team Happyspider). We hope you like it.

The Berlin Wall

The Berlin Wall cut through the city of Berlin slicing not only the city, but also a world in two. It was the visible “in your face” line in the sand between a free democratic way of life and the repression’s of the Communist party.
The “Wall” was 12 feet high and 66 miles long. The piece on display is one section 12x4. The graffiti you will see was to make the Western view more tolerable. Over its life 192 people lost their life trying to escape to the west.

On June 26, 1963, President John F. Kennedy delivered a speech that electrified an adoring crowd gathered in the shadow of the Berlin Wall. As he paid tribute to the spirit of Berliners and to their quest for freedom, the crowd roared with approval upon hearing the President's dramatic pronouncement, "Ich bin ein Berliner" (I am a Berliner). BTW it wasn’t the “Jelly Donut Speech”

Twenty-four years after President John F. Kennedy's visit to Berlin, as tensions between the two superpowers eased, President Ronald Reagan made a historic appearance at the Berlin Wall. He spoke passionately about the advance of human liberty and challenged Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev to "tear down this wall" the ultimate symbol of Communist suppression and thus demonstrate a commitment to profound change.

As time passed the communist party crumbled, and democratic rule won over, unifying Germany. At 06.53 PM on November 9, 1989 a member of the new East German government was asked at a press conference when the new East German travel law comes into force. He answered: "Well, as far as I can see, ... straightway, immediately." Thousands of East Berliners went to the border crossings. At Bornholmer Strasse the people demanded to open the border and at 10.30 PM the border was opened there. That moment meant the end of the Berlin Wall. Soon other border crossing points opened the gates to the West In that night East Germans opened the deadly border peacefully. People stormed the wall with hammers, sledgehammers and their bare hands to topple the structure. Here is different link to the history of the wall.

It is my hope that you enjoy the cache and the history lesson. The hours of the Anne Frank exhibit are 10 AM to 5 PM daily and admission is free. You do not need to enter the exhibit to do this cache, but it is well worth the time to visit.

This piece of the wall sits in front of another exhibit of interest to many. The Georgia Holocaust Commission , in conjunction with the KSU Foundation and Kennesaw State University, brings to Georgia the internationally acclaimed, award winning exhibition “Anne Frank in the World.” Using over 6,000 photographs and 8,000 words of text, this exhibition tells the story of Anne Frank- a young, popular and precocious girl- and her family, following them from freedom in 1920's Germany, to exile in the Netherlands, to hiding in a secret annex above her father's business in Amsterdam, and finally, to death in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp.
