Basildon is home to National Trust property Basildon Park, a stunning Palladian mansion house built in the late 18th century and lovingly restored by Lord and Lady Ilife towards the end of the last century. The house is well known for its fine plasterwork and unusual shell room, in addition to the delightful gardens.
Basildon is close to Pangbourne, a charming little town on the River Thames. Church Cottage was once time home of Kenneth Grahame, author of The Wind in the Willows. If you have time there are several little gift shops and pleasant eateries within the town.
The cache is a small ammo box containing the usual goodies. There is a camera so please take a photo. There are some souvenir cards so help yourself to one but please let me know if you take the last one so that I can replenish them.
There is parking for one car at N51 29.813 W001 09.604. From there it is about 1/2 mile walk along a public footpath. There are no fences or stiles to climb over but the path is a bit steep in places.
