This 2-part cache commemorates the sad story of the Sherwood family beginning in the 1950’s. Larry was a sophomore classmate at Wahoo High School and a very good friend of mine. He was two months short of his 16th birthday when he suddenly died of a heart problem while doing some practice high jumping after school. His death was a huge shock to his parents and the community. Six years later, Larry’s younger sister, Bonnie, was killed in a tragic car accident at age 16 ½ just west of Wahoo. Two Filbrandt brothers were also killed in that accident when their car skidded on ice into the path of a semi. As I remember, Bonnie’s parents were some of the first people to happen onto the accident, not realizing their daughter was one of the victims. Needless to say, the parents, George and Opal, carried very heavy hearts during the remaining years of their lives. Both of them passed away 19 years after the death of Bonnie. They died of different causes, but on the same day, thus neither one had to live through the death of another immediate family member. The coordinates above are for the grave site of the Sherwood family. To get the coordinates of the micro-cache in which you can sign your name, please do the following to fill in the blanks: N41.12.XXX. To get the XXX, subtract the year of birth of the oldest family member from the year of birth of the youngest member. Multiply that number by 12 and then add 10. W096.36.0YY. To get YY, take the mother’s age at date of death, add 2, and then divide by 4.
