Low Tide at Tracy Shore
Photo: g-o-cashers
The Tracy Shore is a beautiful, tranquil preserve in South
Bristol, ME. This is the second multicache to be placed in the
preserve, replacing the earlier 'Tracy Shore' which was archived
(hence the name of this new cache).
The total distance you’ll cover is probably only about a mile,
but there are small streams to cross, some steep sections of trail,
and depending on which trail you take, a marshy area where the
trail gets somewhat fuzzy (the trail does continue on the other
side!). You might have to get your feet wet depending on how much
rain has fallen recently. The terrain difficulty increases when the
ground is wet & slippery - be careful! Plan for at least an
hour to find all the waypoints and get back to your car.
The coordinates given are for the parking area, trailhead, and
the sign which comprises the first stage of the cache. [In the
winter, I recommend parking at the corner of Rt. 129 and South
Road.] To determine the coordinates for the 2nd stage, find the
date on the sign that reads "Tracy Shore" at the top (not the
kiosk). Add the first three digits of this date together. Add this
number to the north coordinates below and subtract it from the west
coordinates below to find the second stage.
N 43° 52.450
W 069° 33.874
The second and third stages are 1-cup plastic containers with
blue lids containing the coordinates to each subsequent stage.
The final cache is a normal (small) sized ammo box,
well-hidden.
Good luck and have fun!
