Geocache Description:

Located on Mersea Island, Essex - the initial coordinates are for the free car park from which to begin the hunt.

Mersea Island is located 10 miles South East of Colchester at the end of the B1025. It is the most easterly inhabited island in Britain with a history of habitation dating back before Roman times. The current population is around 8000 living mainly in the villages of "East Mersea" and the larger "West Mersea". The local amenities include a number of shops, a supermarket, a sports centre, pubs and eateries including the famous "Company Shed" where fresh seafood is served eat-in or take-out.

Essex has over 80% of the UK's salt marsh habitat and there are some fine examples of saltings around Mersea providing a home to a wealth of coastal flora and fauna. There is also a nature reserve at East Mersea. Mersea Island is connected to the Essex coast by a single causeway known as "The Strood" - have your passports ready as you cross it!!!

*WARNING* - It can get quite muddy so wear suitable boots!
