Geocache Description:

This cache is on the beautiful La Purisima Mission grounds. The terrain is hilly and quite sandy.

I am embarassed to say that I had lived in the local Lompoc area for 4 years before ever going to La Purisima Mission. When I finally went, I was blown away by the beauty and the history. This is a great place to take the family, if not to geocache, to picnic and see the many animals and historical sites. I could go on and on about this area but instead will point you to the La Purisima Mission Website.

This is the second cache I have planted around this same area. The first one is MIA (Missing in Action). This is a State Park and it appears the rangers are cracking down on people blazing their own trails. I am unsure if they are the ones that took the cache or someone else. Anyways, I have attempted to put this new cache in an area that already has trails and is still relatively easy to get to. At a decent pace, one can get to the cache in about 20 minutes from the parking lot. This area has a LOT of sand so be warned that some of the hiking is not simple. On the other hand, my four year old can do it so I believe that you can to! Also, if you park in the Mission parking lot, it costs $4.00 so be prepared to fork out the cash.

Without scaring anyone off, I should post two simple warnings. One, there are signs posted that rattlesnakes are in the area. If it is in the summer, keep an eye out but I wouldn’t worry too much. Secondly, poison oak is present at certain times of year. I tried to keep the cache away from any poison oak but it could grow around the area. Just watch yourself.

I hope that you enjoy this cache. It is one of my favorite areas and I like to share it with others.

Lastly, I posted the original coordinates that I got however I took them a couple more times and also got N34.40.229 and W120.25.026. Please let me know what you find so I can update this site.
