HVS Four Corners Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

theosus: I'm going to archive this one. Its disappeared.... there's been some new construction here and I think they removed the cache. In addition, over the summer there was a big wasp nest near the cache, and some of the local homeless guys like to hang around here. Not that they give anyone trouble, but they do like to hang out on the bench where the cache is hidden, making a find a bit tough sometimes. It had a good run, but it's time to move on with this one.

Geocache Description:

This historical geocache puzzle involves the history of Hartsville, South Carolina. The coordinates are within fifty yards of the cache, but with so many places for a microcache to hide, you will need the puzzle to find the final location. This cache involves lots of little clues, so keep your eys open and look around.

There are three challenges to this puzzle; Getting the information, solving the puzzle, and getting the cache without being seen. You can park very close to the cache, and as long as you can walk across a street and back, you can solve this cache. This is a fine daytime cache, and there is enough ambient light to solve the puzzle at night without a flashlight, but you would be better off to seek the cache itself in daylight. Names listed below are for reference only, do not call any organization or person listed!

Go to the coordinates (but watch out for cars). Using the granite markers at the four corners of this intersection, answer the following questions. Circle the dates, and their corresponding letters, on the key below.

When was the Bank Of Hartsville established?
When did the Bank merge with NCNB?
When was the first Police Station here?

When did the Hart family begin establishing businesses?
When did they sell land to the Cokers?
When was the City Chartered by SC?
When was the masons building built?
When was it demolished?
When was JL Coker and Company Established?
When was the brick building built?
When did the store finally close?

Once you have circled the dates and letters, put those dates (along with their corresponding letters), in order from earliest date to latest date. This will reveal the location of the cache. You will most likely need help from the Hartsville Newcomers Club. The Beegle Family might help also. The encrypted hint will give you a little more help if you get stuck, without blatantly revealing the location.

Original contents include:

Log
Air Force Pin
SC Highways or Dieways Pin

Anything you bring will have to be small! Bring your own pen to sign the log. Please put the cache back exactly where it was.
