My GPS kept leading me off to the right with these coordinates. Do
they need correcting? (don't worry, I'm sure you'll FIND the
cache!! lol) ALSO, THE BIKE TRAIL LOCATION ON THE MAP IS *NOT
CORRECT!!* It was re-located to run under the Highway 52 bridge
over the Root River and is much closer to the river than this map
shows.
This cache is in a small clear Rubbermaid container with blue top.
EDIT: THE CACHE IS NOW A CAMO-TAPED LOCK-N-LOCK as of
9-23-07. You can almost totally reach the cache by traveling
the hard-surfaced Harmony-Preston Valley Trail, part of the Root
River Trail System in southeast Minnesota. You will probably want
to use the trailhead parking lot in Preston as your starting point.
Follow the signs to get there. You will need to get off the trail a
wee bit to find the cache. Original contents included a Matchbox
car, a Hulk-like toy, a landscape photo I took with magnetic frame,
a moon keychain, a California grape stuffed toy and a pink toy
thing (not sure what it is!!). I do need to return to leave a
pencil there for cold weather caching, unless someone else would
like to leave one. Also, Gumbo Gumby travel bug is there. You'll be
traveling along the beautiful Root River. You can keep on this
trail and miles later, run across other caches near Lanesboro and
Whalan. Actually making the turn from this trail near the Old Barn
resort to go to Lanesboro - it would be a few miles, maybe 25 miles
roundtrip to get the farthest cache near Whalan, then returning to
the trailhead in Preston. Oh, and I just remembered, there is also
a cache east of Rushford on the trail. Make a good long stay of it
and camp in the area, or stay at the plentiful lodging available.
