Located on hill top in Downley, close to High & West Wycombe in south Buckinghamshire, this is what should be an easy single part cache with some beautiful views of the local scenery & more notably Hughenden Manor, the once; home of Benjamin Disraeli, which can be viewed by looking directly forward from the location and then slightly left.
Situated high above most of the surrounding landscape, sits the earl of Beaconsfield monument. It was placed in dedication by the Disraeli family in the late 1800's and remains, overlooking the settlements & villagers below to this day as it has done for years before.
Access is by means of a footpath which can be located roughly half way along Littleworth Road in Downley. From there follow the trail through little tinkers wood and you will shortly be greeted by a large stone structure enclosed by metal fencing. Information about this piece of history seems to be few and far between. It appears that this small part of countryside is pretty much unknown and therefore you are likely to be able to spend a few minutes here by yourself admiring the surroundings!
The cache itself is hidden in a location where a view of the memorial will still be possible. Please remember to wear old boots or trainers as the area can get muddy, don't say we didn't tell you! Please post any photos you take on this page as when we visited it was dark & we didn't manage to get many good ones! We hope you enjoy your visit & the views, Dan & Pid...
