Geocache Description:

The cache is now a short distance from the tree, in a more suitable position. You can get to both the cache and the tree without leaving asphalt footpaths. The tree is in the church yard and is well marked.

Many Thanks to FantasyRaider for replacing this missing cache. You are a STAR!!!! This is now a micro cache and may need some tweezers to get it - and it will need a pen to write in the log. This tree is one of the oldest living objects in the UK. It is estimated to be between 4-5000 years old, and was only recently discovered. It is one of the Tree Council's Fifty Great British Trees. You can find a complete list of the trees at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_great_British_trees It would be nice if other Geocachers could visit and list the sites of the other 49 Great trees, which are scattered though the UK, thereby making a themed list. If you do list one of these, please number it to follow the list order of the Tree Council site. This tree is last on the list - hence No. 50 ! This tree is "supported" by two organisations that are listed on a plaque. One of these is very appropriate - the other . . . is rather odd! You can purchase a postcard showing the old yew tree from the church porch, for 50p.
