The first set of coordinates
point to a ROUND, METAL item. Stay on the very well
marked and well worn path to get to it - NO CLIFF-CLIMBING
OR BUSHWACKING REQUIRED. You can get to the cache without
disturbing any foliage if you are careful. Click on photos for
more details!
This is a
replacement for Gromit's
Runaround - hopefully a bit harder to get muggled! However
you probably should leave your doggie with a friend at the
beach and bring a calculator instead!
We call this place the "Secret Garden" - if you go here
during the spring, you'll see why. Enjoy the location! The real
name is James G. Scripps Bluff Preserve, located at the
San
Dieguito Rivermouth. Gave it 3 stars for terrain because of
the sand, the stairs and steep gravel trail you need to
traverse. If you found or tried to find Gromit's Runaround,
you're well on your way.
Some useful
waypoints:
- Closest Parking: N32 58.681 W117 16.172 (actually a
porta-potty, but closest parking is around that @ 25 cents per 10
minutes!) Note: You can park in the metered parking from 4AM to
10PM but only have to pay from 9AM to 8PM (
see photo), however, the cache site is technically only open
from sunrise to sunset but there are no gates
- Nearest Free Anytime Parking: N32 58.456 W117 16.135 or N32
58.813 W117 16.132
- Trailhead: N32 58.589 W117 16.228 (
see photo)
First
Waypoint:
Once you've found the first object (hint - it's metal and round) at
the coordinates above, count the number of holes in it (let's call
that number H). The next clue can be found by subtracting H minus 5
from the latitude decimals above and adding H times 3 plus 2 to the
longitude decimals. [lat = lat - (H - 5); long = long + (H * 3) +
2]
Second Waypoint:
At the new coordinates, look around for a number (which we'll call
N). To find the cache, using the new coordinates add the 2nd to
last number in N to the latitude decimals and subtract the sum of
all the numbers in N plus 4 from the longitude decimals. [lat = lat
+ #; long = long - (sum(#,..,#) + 4)]
