Geocache Description:

A walk in The Hollies, Leeds, just off the Meanwood Valley Trail.

The Hollies are situated in Weetwood, Leeds, and lead into Meanwood Park.

In 1921 the property and extensive grounds were presented to Leeds by George Brown in memory of his son, Major Harold Brown listed as killed in action in 1918. The house was used as a sanatorium for children suffering tuberculosis, while the grounds became a public park.

Upon entering The Hollies from Weetwood Lane, there is a formally planted area with native and exotic tree species. This is set alongside seating areas and open spaces. The gardens contain an amazing variety of species, including Pines, Maples and Sequoias, with lots of Rhododendrons and ferns thriving in the moist soil.

Sparrow Hawks and Kingfishers have been seen, and the very occasional deer.

The area around the cache can get a little overgrown in the summer and there is some holly around, so protect bare legs!

The cache is in a lock-and-lock box, which hopefully will keep the contents dry.

There are footpaths from Meanwood Park/The Hollies, the Ring Road, or the car park co-ordinates are:
