Geocache Description:

Looking down on Martinsville

Updated 10/22/09

Mount Martinsville is going away!!

The property rights to Mount Martinsville have changed hands and the new owners intend to truck Mount Martinsville away. Given that Mount Martinsville is a mountain of sand.

I am going to close the cache listing soon. I have already removed the physical cache. It was fun while it lasted.

The Cache was ransacked in Spring 2006, so we have relocated the cache and hardened it. The new coordinates are posted. Accessible in winter, but bring snowshoes with crampons just in case. The land owner has signed the Western boarder or the property to ward off ATV users, but is still amendable to hikers. Approaching from the east near N 43° 32.283 W 072° 23.023 signifigantly increases the dificulty of the approache, but does not cross the signed property edge. There is no established trail, so you are own your own out there. I have increased the difficulty rating accordingly..

Due to popular demand, the old ammo box has been replaced by a large transparent plastic jar with a new and improved, easily opened (and closed) Yellow screw top lid.

PS: In response to canoe and kayak people, try begining your approach at N 43° 32.283 W 072° 23.023 (approximately). The steep route is tough....

2/6/05 A new Journal is in the Jar for when the old one fills up.
