Geocache Description:

Use the same principle that allows our GPSr's to tell us where we are to triangulate to this fun puzzle cache in Loose Park.

This cache is the replacement cache for 'Loose Triangulation' which was chainsawed down just one day after it was activated. This second version is at a totally new location at the other side of the park and is also an 'improved' version.

The idea for this cache came from the cache 'Triangulation Sensation' by Ooga Booga. It was in Columbia, MO and has since been archived. But I liked it because it was a unique multi-cache. So, I asked Ooga Booga if I could steal his idea for a cache at Loose Park and I borrowed a little bit from his old cache page. Hopefully, this one will last a good deal longer than my first one in Loose Park.

Were you one of those people that slept through geometry class in high school? Too bad, because you might need to call on those forgotten lessons to help find this cache. Or you can do like I did with Ooga Booga's cache and simply walk it out the 'no math' way.

Here's the deal: Hidden in the park are three different waypoints. Each waypoint contains information telling you the distance from that waypoint to the final cache. One waypoint is covered, one is concealed, and the other is hanging in plain sight...you'll have to determine which is which. Please do not take the card or detach antything. If needed, 'Re-hide' them the way you found them for the next person. All you'll need is the distance written on the card and you can go find the cache.

Using each of these distances, you'll be able to triangulate the information to discover the location of the final cache. The 'scientific' method is to plot the points on a sheet of paper and draw distance circles from each. The cache will be wherever the three circles intersect. For instance, if the three waypoints were 55, 70, and 85 feet away from the cache, your drawing might look something like this:

For mathematicians, a piece of graph paper and a compass (mechanical, not magnetic) might come in handy for this one. For a rather advanced method to solve this problem, click here.

For the rest of us 'brute strenght and ignorance' folks, simply use the 'Go To' feature on your gps and try to figure out where you should be walking the distance from each point.

The final cache is a small rubbermaid container - if you're going to trade, bring something similarily tiny. Please rehide it well, so that it won't be taken.

The three waypoints are located at:

  • 1. N 39° 01.785 W 94° 35.707
  • 2. N 39° 01.726 W 94° 35.752
  • 3. N 39° 01.706 W 94° 35.743

Although this is the less travelled end of Loose Park, there may be a good amount of walking/jogging traffic here!! Please be discreet!! If it's too busy, please come back another time. Or you might try finding the other caches in Loose Park ('Cache on the Loose' and 'Loose Revenge') nearer the north end of the park.
