This is located on the only island on East Reservoir of the Portage Lakes.
This cache is located on the island of East Reservoir of Portage Lakes, approximately six miles South of Akron. Portage Lakes is a series of lakes, approximately 3000 water acres, with a variety of outdoor things to do.
In the winter, you can walk across the ice. If the ice is thick enough, you will likely see snowmobiles, four wheelers or ice huts on the ice. Don't attempt to approach over thin ice. The best place to park is near the Clock Tower (Turkeyfoot Rd and Portage Lakes Dr.) or along Portage Lakes Dr. You can reach Portage Lakes Dr. via Main St.
In the summer, local marinas rent pontoon boats and canoes. The island is in the middle of a speed/ski zone, so follow the rules shown on a large sign in the middle of the East Reservoir. If you'd like to visit the Portage Lakes State Park, the entrance to it is on Manchester Rd. (Rt. 93). The park has camping, swimming, picnicking, fishing and trails. It also has two boat ramps.
