Geocache Description:

Near Whitlow dam.

You can drive close to the bottom of the hill on a rocky road but 4 WD is not necessary if you’re careful.
When we first visited this site, we were told it was a native American fortification. To us it seemed unlikely that it would have survived in this condition. Now, visiting 10 + years later we find it is unchanged. Perhaps the story is true. We have placed the cache quite a distance from the stone structures so cachers will not move any rocks at the site. After visiting the cache, it is worthwhile to go the the top of the hill for a great 360 view and to see the fortress.

There is no established trail and it is fairly rocky with a 500’ gain in elevation to the top. (A gentle slope at the bottom becoming more difficult as you climb.) At the cache site there is a rock ledge to sit on while you write and rest.

Ammo box - original contents: Log book and pencil, Spanish-English dictionary, roll of ‘wild animal’ tape, flashlight keychain, Matchbox Jeep, 10’ tape measure, cash, belt compass, brass dog, shark teeth
