Built in 1939 - 40 by the Army Corps of Engineers, Hansen Dam is an important part of flood control for Los Angeles. It also offers a pleasant stroll or bike ride.
Each weekend hundreds of people of all ages walk, run or ride along the top of the Hansen Dam. The City is developing the northern part of the dam for water-oriented recreation and picnicing.
For this cache you can park on Osbourne Street at
W34 16.045 N118 24.015. Walk along the path atop the dam past the spillway (approx 1 mile).
If you've ever assembled one of those jigsaw puzzles made from a picture of nothing but gumballs, then you'll appreciate the challenge that awaits you.
