Geocache Description:

You'll have to hike or snowshoe about a mile to get to this cache. Shorter if you choose the right place to park.

Burton Creek is a little known area of Lake Tahoe that gets few visitors. Its a special place to us as we live near the creek and have hiked it regularly for many years. The view from this cache is spectacular and worth the effort. The Lake shimmers in the sun as you look south. Looking west and just below the ridge is an interesting geological formation of autoabrecciated lava that long ago oozed out of the sides of Mount Watson. Its similiar if smaller to the formations seen at Devils Postpile National Monument. Looking North up the creek you'll see some more lava that has dammed the creek and forms a pretty waterfall. Down in the canyon talus you might see a Porcupine who calls this his home. Tell your dogs to keep their noses to themselves as its a $150 fee to remove the quills at the local vets. Also watch for coyote or brother bear who's tracks are often seen here and occasionally make an appearance in the flesh.
