The cache is situated at the northern end of Oswestry Old
Racecourse, a few hundred yards from the Offas Dyke Path.
Oswestry Racecourse was a very popular venue in it's heyday. The
Grandstand was built in 1804 but by the 1840's the railways enabled
the better competitors to travel further afield for bigger prize
money. The racecourse was abandoned in 1848 and is now common land
to be enjoyed by all. From the racecourse there are superb views
into the Welsh mountains & all across Shropshire. The walk
around the circuit is about 2 miles but walks can be cut shorter or
extended into the adjacent Candy Woods. The 182 mile Offas Dyke
path passes directly through the racecourse.
The cache is a small clear shallow circular plastic box (about 3"
diameter) containing a small log book, pen and pencils. It can hold
a very few small swap items.
There is plenty of free car parking available at the well
signposted car park (52°52.025 N 003° 06.136 W SJ25898 30526).
There is a useful information board near the car park.
PLEASE NOTE: There is a barbed wire fence near to the cache.
Please be careful.
