Geocache Description:

Cache is situated on top of a hill overlooking Weston-Super-Mare in the grounds of the semi-derelict St Nicholas church.

This is the first cache in Weston-Super-Mare and is located at Uphill overlooking the River Axe and the town itself. It can be reached by several routes and the suggested car-park is at N51 19.285, W2 58.998. There is a fairly steep short uphill climb but the views are very rewarding. The semi-derelict church of St Nicholas still holds Sunday sevices during August and is the oldest church in the area. Weekly services were abandoned in 1846 because of the poor state of the roof. This has now been removed. The site has been used since Stone Age times and as a place of worship since AD350. Below the church the area has been designated as a Nature Reserve and there is a large boatyard. The nearby tower is a derelict 14th century windmill and was in military use until 1952. It is now used as a viewpoint and you can see the Mendips, Wales, Weston, Brent Knoll and Glastonbury Tor. The cache is a small polythene container which is magnetic. There is no pen in the container.
