Geocache Description:

This cache is located in Cloverport, Kentucky across the CSX Railroad tracks from where the passenger depot used to stand. It is a small capsule containing just a log. Bring your own pencil. Level ground, Park within 25 feet.

Local citizens have established a nice museum of local history in the former freight depot. CSX Railroad donated this caboose to the museum.

Cloverport was, for many years, a “railroad town”. The main repair shops of the Louisville, Henderson & StLouis Railroad were located in Cloverport. (The original name of the road was Louisville, StLouis & Texas Railroad”. Local wags contended “the road didn’t start in Louisville, never got to StLouis and never intended to go to Texas.) Many refered to the road as “The Texas”.

Train crews originated their runs in Cloverport, and terminated them there on the return trip. Thus the town was populated with both shop men and train crews.

The Louisville and Nashville Railroad (L&N) , which owned 98% of the outstanding stock, absorbed the company and closed the Shops at the end of May 1929.

This is an easy cache. JUST REMEMBER: (1) STAY OFF CSX PROPERTY. (2) You don’t need to get on or into the caboose to locate the cache. (3) GOOD LUCK! The town is full of fine people, be considerate.
