Note September 2006: Despite the tranquil description below, I
hadn't realized what Hurrincane Wilma had done to this area last
year. This is no longer a leafy glade but a weed-overgrown palmetto
palm wasteland. Between Wilma's wind that took some of the trees
and the unscrupulous companies that cut down many of the rest to
fill their trucks with "hurricane debris" to make a quick profit,
the charm is just about gone. However, the hide is still in the
same spot for those willing to tramp through once was a gorgeous
area in the city.
This is what was:
A quiet walk on a leaf-covered earthen path in the middle of the
city will take you into the scrubby flatwoods where you can find
this cache just a bit off the well-traveled trail. You may see all
kinds of birds and perhaps a land tortoise eating the gopher apples
found here. Please don't bushwack! If you're off the path, you
aren't looking in the right place!
This cache started off with many "apple" related items - see
what you can find!
Stay on the "path" so you don't get cut by the saw
palmettos!
The city park and preserve are open 8 AM until sunset.
