Cley Hill is an extraordinary hill which really stands alone. Whilst the climb to the top is steep, you will be rewarded with excellent views almost 360° round the hill. It is the location of an iron age hill fort of about 300 BC and also has two bronze age round barrows on the spine of the hill. One of these is silhoueted from miles away. Cley hill is also well known for UFO sightings.
Details of Cley Hill are available on the BBC Wiltshire web site.
Cley Hill is a National Trust property of archaeological interest, and a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) partly due to being home to 6 varieties of Orchid. For these reasons the physical cache was placed at some distance to the hill.
There is a car park at N51°11.858', W02°14.021'. An Ordnance Survey map for the location is available at this web site.
The above co-ordinates will locate a metal plate. At the bottom of this plate there are five alphanumerics in the form ABCDE.
N51°11.(C+D)(DxE)(B+B+E)', W02°13.(C+D)(D-E)(B+B)'.
Beware of barbed wire at the final. The cache is in an Ammo box. Remember to sign the book. Please ensure it is replaced so that it isn't visible to the casual passer-by.
