Geocache Description:

Just off the Palmetto Trail at the sight of The Blackstock Battlefield in Union County, SC. Blackstock Road runs between SC Hwy 56 in Spartanburg County and US Hwy 49 in Union County. Follow your GPS and your instinct from there. The day we hid the cache we saw a couple with a metal detector, and a family with fishing gear heading down the trail.

This cache is in a metal ammo can. Items that should remain with the cache are the logbook, a pencil and pencil sharpener, and a camera with a log sheet for pictures. Please take your photo, log the exposure if you wish but leave the camera with the cache. A short history of the battle is in the container.

Original trading contents were a bicentennial quarter, a red, white & blue ink pen, a US Army First Sergeant rank insignia, military camouflage kit, a Medal's of America mail order catalog, a miniature U.S. flag, a deck of playing cards, a condiment pack and spoon from a MRE (meal ready to eat), and a SCARNG post-it note pad.

The cache is near the location of the Battle of the Blackstock Plantation, which occurred on 20 November 1780 near the banks of the Tyger River. This cache is to help remind us all that freedom has never been, and never will be free!
