Geocache Description:

A cache highlighting a fantastic desert view.

This is a brown ammo box placed by geocaching members of the Southern California Club Xterra.

Vista del Malpais is Spanish for "View of the Badlands." This is not the same badlands you will see from Tuna's cache however. His cache overlooks the Carrizo Badlands while this one looks out over the Borrego Badlands.

The views from the overlook are amazing. You can look out from here over nearly the entire expanse of the badlands. You can also easily see the Salton Sea, Borrego Valley and the surrounding mountains on every side.

You may need a high clearance vehicle to make it to the cache, but care in driving can take most vehicles here. You can drive within a very short distance of the cache by taking the road down the Vista del Malpais wash. It is shown on topo maps. To reach the correct road, either drive up Short Wash from the east, or take the Short Wash road branching from Fonts Wash to the west. (In Fonts Wash it is just north of the big wash with the Do Not Enter signs.)

It is not recommended that you visit in the summer months. This area often has the highest temperatures in the United States. At any time of the year, remember to bring lots of water in your vehicle.
