Cranes are Calling Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Ospreys: The cranes were calling today when we walked the La Chua trail to the observation platform. Several changes/improvementshad been made since our last visit. The observation platform at the end of the trail has been extensively remodeled. The platform itself and many of the supports have been replaced, and with the remodeling, the cache was lost. We've decided to archive the cache. It was a great location but had challenges. For months, the trail was closed due to high waters. And when the trail reopened, the cache had been washed away. The cache was muggled several times. But the real reward was not the cache (although finding one in a nature setting always is a bonus) but the birds, gators and view of the prairie.

Geocache Description:

A micro placed to encourage a hike that will provide a great view of the birds. Bring your own pen -- in addition to binoculars or a camera.

A 1.5-mile walk on the La Chua Trail brings you to this cache. At the right time of year, you'll hear the Sandhill cranes calling -- but you may not see them. Usually lots of alligators sunning as you walk the path. While hiding the cache, we were privileged to see a flock of white pelicans. And of course, be sure to watch for the Red-shouldered hawks and Ospreys.
