Geocache Description:

This cache is in an area northwest of Liberty Lake called Holiday Hills. The terrain has some steep climbs but is very do-able. I gave it a 3 because it is over a mile from the parking area. The difficulty level is a 2.

If you were in the Spokane area around the time of Expo 74, you will know the spot. Remember the (now defunct) Ski hill (who's Idea was that?), the snowmobile racetrack, the Restaurant (Banachecks?) and the campground complete with all of those Winnebago motorhomes with the Expo 74 symbol on their sides. This whole are has been vacant for many years except for the occasional hiker or mountain biker. Last summer developement started and is now in full swing. I originally placed this cache in June of last year but, never posted it because of a tractor burning incident that took place (don't want to put innocent geocachers in harms way or under suspicion). Anyway, the actual cache is a 30 mill. ammo can (cammo-ed up) placed somewhere on the mountain. Its a pretty fair hike but, if you make us of the trails in the area , it will take some of the work out of it. The place to park for this cache is as follows. From the Liberty Lake exit off of I-90 go south on Liberty Lake Drive for approximately 1 mile to Settler Drive. Turn left on Settler Dr. and park (N47* 39.494 W 117* 05.975).
Walk or bike back across L.L. Dr. and go 50 yards north to the access trail (WATCH FOR TRAFFIC!! 35 is the posted speed but 50 is the norm). Don't be alarmed by the No Trespassing sign, the Liberty Lake police Dept. told me that hikers and bikers were OK but, no motor vehicles. While you are up on the hill don't forget to enjoy the views of Liberty Lake and Mica Peak. When you get to the cache site, you will be able to see where it got its name from. No need to climb any fences, the cache is on the outside. As always, take along some water, be prepaired for the weather and "pack it in, pack it out".
