Geocache Description:

A regular cache hidden in an area of Ontario that seemed to have attracted much less than its fair share of caches when we placed it. This was our first attempt to rectify that situation! This cache is the oldest cache in the "Geocaching Capital of Canada" region

This cache is hidden off a trail that runs from the town of Wilberforce to the Burleigh Rd. in the beautiful Haliburton Highlands region. Since this is our first in the area and there seems to be a real dearth of activity round here we decided to make it not too far from civilization so as to encourage geocachers to the area. (We'd like some new caches to search out for ourselves too - hint, hint). We came in from the north (Burleigh Rd.) end of the track. The track appears to be used only by snowmobilers, x-country skiiers and geocachers on foot during the winter. We suspect it will be 4x4 accessible when the snow has gone (and probably even with the snow there but that wouldn't be being nice to the snowmobilers so please don't try it). Although we didn't travel the whole way along the track, the map indicates it comes out almost in the centre of Wilberforce so you should be able to access it from that direction too - but note how close together the contour lines are on the topo map!!

In keeping with the cache name, however, you might need a good dose of "The Force" to find the actual cache since, once again, it was hidden by our 8 year old cache hiding ace who seems to be developing a very ingenious and imaginative skill in setting caches. However, since this may involve a fair trip from home for some folks and we wouldn't like anyone to go home empty handed there are some fairly detailed clues in the spoiler hints.

The cache is an ammo box (seemed sturdier than tupperware given the types of wildlife that might find it round here) and contains various space related trading items (including a bouncy moon rock, some stars and comets and so on), "Blaster" the Canadian Space Shuttle Travel Bug who wants to be in the first cache on the moon amongst other things, log book with pencils etc. It has been placed with the handle outwards so that you can extricate it from its hiding spot by pulling on the handle. Please try to remember to put it back that way round for the next person.

We noticed that tracks recorded by the GPSr and the trails and roads as marked on the topo maps around here do not always coincide particularly accurately (so don't be misled by the topo map). Although the GPSr showed 7m accuracy for all 3 three waypoint marks we took at the cache site, the coordinates did vary by .008' lat. and by .006' long. - the provided coordinates are an average of those we took at the site.

Good luck and, as you seek it out, we will be wondering and hoping:

"Wilberforce be with you?"
