Hoyt Loop
Welcome to Hoyt Park: the site of the annual Fourth of July Scripps Ranch Fun Run and Bike.

We've lived in the community four years and have yet to participate in the event. Unfortunately, that happens to be the time of year we travel, so we are seldom around. Perhaps 2004...

The best parking for this cache is at the following coordinates.

N 32° 54.333
W 117° 06.024
You can either walk or bike the route; neither will be easy. Although it is possible to drive much of the route, the cache is off the road about a quarter mile from the final waypoint. Whichever method you choose, I think you'll enjoy the scenery.

The posted coordinates, N 32° 54.315 W 117° 05.814, are for the first waypoint. Be careful crossing this street as it curves around and up both ways making it difficult for drivers to notice you as their cars zip down the hill.

At this trail intersection, you'll find a couple of rather large cement cylindrical somethings sunk into the ground. On each of these is a green number starting with either P03 or P04. You are looking for the next four digits after the P03 or the P04 (its the same four digits on each cylinder).

Next, you'll have a steep climb with an elevation gain of about 120 feet. Another sunken cylindrical something identical to the others has its own set of green numbers starting with P04.

This leg takes you along some of the streets in this part of Scripps Ranch but leads you to one of the lesser known sections of trail in this area. Although it is not easy to spot, this waypoint is at the trailhead located between two homes; you will want to follow this trail. But first, note the address of the house directly across the street from the trailhead.

This short hike through the woods will lead you along another street to another trail. Your GPSR should lead you correctly along the appropriate trails.

The last bit of this leg ascends again but not quite as steeply as the prior one. At the top, a light pole provides the clues for the coordinates of the cache.

The cache, which is now a decon container, is located about 15 feet or so off the trail. Very little bushwhacking is involved, and the cache shouldn't be too difficult to find. If you can't locate it within five minutes or so, please refer to the hint.

To return to your car, continue along this gentle, downward-sloping trail to the park using your GPS unit to guide you to the parking coordinates provided at the beginning.
