Geocache Description:

Busbie Muir Windfarm The cache is not far from turbines, and involves a walk over moorland and marshland, so have decent footwear, and be aware of sheep and cattle in the area. **Dogs Not Advised *** Have a walk near to one to get a ‘feel’ of the power involved.

Busbie Muir Windfarm completed this year, 2004. The engineers tell me that these are the largest wind turbines in the United Kingdom so far. They also told me it takes 6 minutes to climb up the internal ladders to the top! The blades have a span of 80 metres and dominate the skyline in the area.

When you stand in 'close' proximity to the turbines, 300 metres easily!, you certainly hear a ‘Whoosh’ from the blades!. I will update with more technical details later, but for now, there are 12 in total, and give an impressive perspective over the Firth of Clyde, around the Ardrossan and Saltcoats area.

There are numerous access points, and the closest you can get on a decent surfaced road is appx. .66 of mile, but watch when parking that farm vehicles can get past. Don't park at the main gate for the area. You can make your way up to the Muir by alternate routes. There is a Trig point on an adjacent hill for the TUK collectors.

I recommend heading for Law Castle in West Kilbride and following the rough track up to a distance of about ¾ mile from the cache site, (just past the ‘holiday’ chalets) try to find a wide verge to park, then walk in for the rest of the distance. (If you follow the track to its conclusion, namely a farmyard, you will be blocking movements of farm vehicles)
Use the stiles provided.

Thanks to the 'Whoosh' man himself, Spioradsaor, who unknowingly, gave me the idea for this one!.

Cache contains the usual goodies, and 'A' is for airport TB.

Good Caching!, DeputyDawg
