A short level walk in Westfeldt Park. The distance of travel is
determined by where you decide to park and your approach to the
cache. The wetlands will have some bearing on your approach.
Westfeldt Park is located off of Old Fanning Bridge Road.
Taking Hwy 280 between Mills River and I 26 at the airport, Old
Fanning Bridge Road is just North of the French Broad River
Bridge.
The cache is placed at the “beginning or end” of a
trail just inside the outer boundaries of the park. Your approach
to this trail will determine if you will be at the beginning or
end. No bushwhacking required. From late spring through late fall
(mosquito season) this area could be known as
“Mosquitoville”. There is a wet weather marsh in the
middle of the park that is prime mosquito breeding grounds.
Bringing mosquito repellant may make your geoadventure more
enjoyable. The distances to all of the caches in the park are a
little further than they first seem due to the fact that you have
to go around the wetlands. This micro cache is a small "Ponds"
cream jar which contains a log sheet and a few small, tradable
items.
BRING YOUR PENCIL OR PEN to sign the log. For this cache to remain,
it will have to be covered well so that it will not be vandalized
or removed.
