Geocache Description:

A flattish walk though the woods, or slightly steeper up through a field.

This large rocky mound, called Gop Hill, is known traditionally in the area as Bodicea’s Grave.

A lot of cachers have been following a public footpath that goes though someone's garden! This garden IS part of the public footpath! But if you want to avoid that route, there is another right of way that goes through the south side of the woods at Gop Hill.

The Gop is actually the second largest man made Neolithic mound in the UK (second to Silbury Hill). Archaeologists doubt that there is any connection between the Gop and Boudica (as she is more accurately called) – the famous female warrior. But the academics aren’t always right. And tradition often does hold a grain of truth. So perhaps she is buried here. It must have taken an enormous amount of motivation to build such an huge mound of rocks by hand. And perhaps her death was enough to provide that motivation.

If you look down from the summit there are open fields that could have been the site of Boudica’s last stand.

This is a great portal for huge numbers of Neolithic sites. Shame they don’t use GPS references - yet!
