You're in the
Army, now! The Confederate Army that is.
This cache is
located on the grounds of something that is becoming fairly rare
these days. Many old Confederate forts, defenses, and monuments are
well known. What are not so well known are the nondescript places
that provided support to Confederate forces. This is one of those
places.
This is Camp
Stephens, named after Alexander Stephens, Vice President of the
Confederate States of America. It was used for basic training, as a
transfer point, and for equipping the troops from 1860 thru
1865.
At the end of the
late unpleasantness it was abandoned. If you look at a map, imagine
the location at the coordinates to be the headquarters of the camp
and the existing streets, which form a four-box pattern, as the
main streets of the camp and the outer rectangular street pattern
as the camp's boundaries.
