Geocache Description:

This cache is located on the LOWER Cascade Head Trail. It is a moderate hike through beautiful forest on a well maintained trail. You'll need to bring water. Park at Knights park lot (N45 02.472 W123 59.502).

First off, this cache is NOT ON PRIVATE PROPERTY! It is located near the "Nature Conservancy Cascade Head Preserve" but is on National Forest land. However, please follow the Nature Conservancy requests about not taking your dog - 'cuz after you find this cache, you'll want to continue onto the NC preserve to the top of Cascade Head for the spectacular views! Think about leaving a cash donation for the NC to support their good work at the donation box (N45 03.164 W124 00.113) up the trail from the cache. I'll just tell you how to find this since the area is so lush and you won't want to trample it: Once on the lower trail, follow it and enjoy the ferns, moss and solitude. Be quiet and you'll see deer, elk, hawks, Bald eagles, and maybe an elf or two. Once clear of the forest, watch for whales spouting in the distance and harbor seals on the banks of the Salmon river far below. After crossing Teal creek, watch for the sign that says you are leaving National Forest land. Look to the West and you'll know you're getting close because you'll see how others "hold their water." Now backtrack from the sign about 100 ft and watch for another trail going west. Go about 100 ft west and watch for the "Bearing Tree." Stand under the "bearing tree" plate and shoot an azimuth of 165 deg SSE and go about 27 steps. The cache is located under a log (not buried) but is concealed by ferns.
