Geocache Description:

This cache is a rather easy find. It is located in the heart of Chambersburg.

The boxes at each stage of this multicache are little white boxes, that greatly resemble a birdhouse (maybe because the box plans came from a birdhouse blueprint). My fellow boy scouts and I spent hours building these boxes in my garage. John Brown was a famous abolitionist. He stayed at this house in the summer of 1859, under the name of Doctor Isaac Smith. While in town, Mr. Brown bought tools and weapons and formulated his plan here for his attack at Harpers Ferry in the fall of 1859. For more information on John Brown and the Underground Railroad, please visit www.cr.nps.gov.
Because of the location of this cache, I put a lock on it and the combination is 1-3-5.

Once you have found the John Brown House cache, you will find the coordinates for the second part of the multicache. A few hundred feet up the street lies the Franklin County "Old" Jail. The Jail was built in 1818, it survived the burning of Chambersburg in 1864. Evidence suggests it was also used as a way station on the Underground Railroad. Today, it houses the Kittochtinny Historical Society, a non-profit organization that collects, preserves, and makes historical materials about this area available to the public. For more information on the Old Jail please visit www.rootsweb.com/~pakhs/.
There is also a lock on this cache because of the location. Its combination is also 1-3-5. Please know these numbers when you go to the cache or otherwise it will be a worthless trip!
