Geocache Description:

This hide-a-key micro cache is located in the brand new Clutter's Park in El Segundo which is an area popular with LAX (Los Angeles International Airport) "plane spotters"

Da Plane! Boss! Da Plane!

From this cache location high a top a hill you get a great view of LAX. Clutter's Park includes benches, seat/tables with checkerboards, and even two FREE telescopes and one is handicapped accessible!

Pat & Susan provided this bit of interesting information on Jim Clutter...

A quick note about Jim Clutter for whom the area was named. He worked for TWA for over 30 years as a ticket agent. After ''retiring'', he became a realtor in El Segundo. Later he ran for city council and won. He worked constantly to keep the airport noise as low as possible for the residents of El Segundo. On the bluff below the cache site, there was once a large ''UNSAFE FOR JETS'' sign he had constructed using mostly his own money. It was his way of reminding the airport and pilots of the noise abatement procedures which were in effect. Jim Clutter died of cancer in the early '90s.

This is a LOG ONLY hide-a-key micro cache. Hardest part is that this park is popular all hours of the day especially at lunch time!

  • Update 3/15/04: A couple of people have had their GPSr "lock up" in this area probably due to high EMF from the airport radar. My friend's Garmin Rhino would completely lock up over at Grand Central Station. Due to high muggle traffic and GPSr recpetion problems I raised the difficutly to 2.0 and added more clues.
  • List your GPSr model in your log and whether or not it worked okay and I'll add it to the list below

There have been NO reports of GPS Receivers locking up in years and now most just use their smart phone which never had an issue. Leaving the report below but no longer updating it.
