Right -on- the Massachusetts & Vermont Border, N Green River Rd. ** NOTE UPDATED COORDINATES 2/10/05 **
Microcache with log. Round plastic tupperware-type container. Pretty basic container, no frills. Really nice hiking along this road North and South.
Definite out-of-the-way geocache. Main attraction is the several miles of scenic nature views afforded all along the Green River as it enters Massachusetts.
Saw some deer on other side of river, also merganser ducks.
Found this place while hiking back down from further north of here. Neat historical marker.
When placed there was a lot of ice floes and snow still melting from winter's cold. Frozen waterfalls and interesting rock geology were found all along the road on the way North.
4x4s will make it up no problem but a car may be questionable after heavy rain/snow. I hiked it in from Stewardsville after parking along the road. New County Rd is paved but most of N Green River Rd is unpaved and does get muddy.
I suggest coming up Green River Rd from Greenfield or alternately from gorgeous West Leyden Rd.
You can get to this area from Rt 112 but it is much more scenic and enjoyable a ride if you come in from Conway St to Leyden Rd in Greenfield to greenfield rd in Leyden to Mid County Rd to West Leyden Rd, follow straight to bridge in W. Leyden, take a right when over the bridge follow north then stay to right at the fork. Continue north on N Green River Rd.
Excellent photography here in the fall.
Container -IS- winter accessable.
