Christ Church Meadow and the boathouses.
40 years old in 2002, you too can have a go at the Bamber Gascoigne – Jeremy Paxman show, albeit with a difference. For visitors to Oxford I suggest you park in one of the five park and ride car parks the surround the city, and take the bus in to the centre. From here you can start our little quiz. But be warned, this cache is a black 35mm film cassettes with magnetic attraction and due to the very urban nature of their locations, are much in the public spotlight. The trick is to winkle them out of their hidey holes without attracting attention. Each cache (apart from no. 5,) initially contains some low grade coinage, a ‘golden nugget’ and a blue crystal and a 66 signature micro log, but no pencil, bring your own.Happy hunting!Either enter the meadows through Rose Lane by The Botanical Gardens, (worth a visit) or walk along Merton Street and find the gated entrance between Merton and Corpus Christi colleges . Or go down St Aldgates and through the formal entrance after Christ Church College and Old Tom (its tower).Posted on the eve of the University Boat Race further downstream, this is where a majority of the wealthier colleges have there boathouses, and again where blues are won or lost. During the Bumps, races held over four days in March ('Torpids') and in May ('Summer Eights'), access here will be restricted. Anyway, if you stand away from the bridge you can indeed see the cache, but retrieving it safely is another thing. The meadow closes its gates at or around dusk.
