Geocache Description:

Cache is 0.3mi. southeast of the gate at the junction of Forest Rd. 70 & Forest Rd. 19 in a rock stack 100ft above Forest Rd. 70. The first 0.2mi. can be walked or biked. Rock cairns mark a fairly direct unobstructed route the last 0.1mi. up through rocky woods & then steeply up through & over rocks to the top of the rockstack. No special equipment required. The cache is hidden under one of the "pancakes" at the top of the stack. There is a 250 degree view from the top of the "pancake stack".

Park at the gate at the junction of Forest Rd. 70 & Forest Rd. 19 (don't obstruct the gate). Follow Forest Rd. 70 south for approx. 0.2mi. to a large rock on the left side of the road. There is a rock cairn on top of this large rock & another cairn just past it. Enter the woods at the cairn just past the large rock & follow rock cairns east up through the rocky woods. When you reach the more dense spruce & rhododendron follow the cairns up the rocky pathway which winds slightly left & then slightly right to pass up, around & through huge rocks covered with lichens & ferns. The "pancake stack" can be seen rising up out of the spruce to the left as the trail circles around to the south & then northeast to aproach the top of the "pancake stack" from the woods behind/east of the stack.
Enjoy the 250 degree view looking northwest to southeast to view Red Creek Plains, Roaring & Flatrock Plains, Weiss Knob, & Rhorbaugh Plains. The cache, hidden under one of the "pancakes", is a 14X5 inch white PVC pipe with a screw on lid. A green geocache label is affixed to the outside. Contents: log book & pencils, few small "toys", & a custom map of the Dolly Sods area. The map shows trails & features not found on any official map.
Note: an obscure trail leads southeast from the back of the rockstack to other rocks & cliffs and then through the woods to a campsite on South Prong Tr. The route is shown on the custom map.
