Cache relocation Because of the new fence around the field the box is in new place. The new co-ordinates are: N 47o 15.950 E 17o 29.895', 178 m. 10:31 22.07.2010. Cache relocation Because of the dogs of the neighbours the cache was relocated. The new co-ordinates are: N 47o 15.837 E 17o 30.736, 202 m. The door of the Social Home (N 47o15.882 E17o 30.486) is always open. Place your vehicle at the parking place of the cloister, then start to walk from N 47o15.867 E17o 30.739 point. The cache is about 50 m to this point. Please don’t left the small way, because there are protected plants. ------------------------------------------------------------ Attya Puszta lies about 170 m high, which boundary has two parts by Séd streamlet. The North part of the field belongs to Pápa plain, the south part belongs to Bakonyalja. There are sandy, pebble field plough-land lying on the country, moreover there are small forests, grassy-woody pastures and vineyards on the South part. Attya Puszta is accessible both from Pápakovácsi and Pápa. Arriving from Pápa near the crossing of Pápakovácsi, turn left at the table marked to Pápakovácsi's "Szociális Otthon" (=Social Home, N47 16.137 E17 29.251), then you can see the tower of the Carmel Cloister after covering about 1.5 km on a small asphalt road, and soon you will arrive to the parking place of the cloister. The ancestor of Pápakovácsi, the village Kovácsi in the Middle Ages possibly lied on the place of the village of today. According to the local traditions the old cemetery of the village located in the South border of the inside area. The Árpád aged village was mentioned at the first time by its name in year 1315. It wasn't desolated during the Turkish era, but it was a Turkish feudal estate between 1533-1566. The Attyai Major lies on a gently sloping hillside. Archaeologists founded roof tiles and parts of tile stoves from Middle Ages in 1967. The place can be identified as the village Attya, which was mentioned on this name first time in 1319. The village belonged to the Attyai family, and there are notes about the tax payments of the bondsmen from 1488. In 1531 there were only two families who paid taxes. 9 houses stood empty, and it had been totally empty since 1544. In the beginning of the 17th Century it had been a resided village. The Theresian Carmel Abbeys built a cloister here in Attya Puszta between 1945 and 1950. Frater Berkes Bernát and his abbey group began to build it by their own work. The small, straw covered, temporary cloister was ordained by Dr. Sárközi Pál, the Abbot of Bakonybél on 11th August, 1946. The definitive sanctuary of the Holy Madonna of Mount Carmel was ordained on 11th September, 1950. The picture of the Holy Madonna - painted by Hauer - was placed here in 1715. Nowadays this sanctuary is a favourite place for the pilgrims here, on the brink of the Bakony. A carmelitan abbey, Frater Marton Marcell, whose canonisation is currently in progress, visited Attya Puszta three times. He had spent a long time here, he gave masses, preached about Madonna, and he celebrated his silver mass here. The cloister hasn’t been ready yet, when the communists seized the building. Berkes Bernát, the establisher of the cloister could return only in 1990. Today the cloister and the church (N47 15.883 E17 30.766) operates as a retreat's house. Since more decades – including the years of communist era too - the abbeys have expiatory day on every 13th day of each months. Every year, on the day of 13th August a meeting is organised here especially for the carmelitan youth. There are good possibilities for familiar and individual excursions on foot or by bicycle: the reassuring surroundings are quiet, suitable for contemplation. The reserved oak forest of Farkasgyepü, the Eszterházy Mausoleum of Ganna or the fortress of Döbrönte are excellent points of interest. Leaving the geocaching point in the south-east direction from the cloister, you can find a quiet hilly country with far away the Attyai-láprét. The springs and the pastures between the gentle hillocks are attractive for everybody. 2022.07.20 10:17 The cache has got a new box.
